Lovefool - The Cardigans
Dear, I fear we're facing a problem
You love me no longer, I know
And maybe there is nothing
That I can do to make you do
Mama tells me I shouldn't bother
That I ought to stick to another man
A man that surely deserves me
But I think you do!
So I cry, I pray and I beg
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Fool me fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
I can't care 'bout anything but you...
Lately I have desperately pondered,
Spent my nights awake and I wonder
What I could have done in another way
To make you stay
Reason will not lead to solution
I will end up lost in confusion
I don't care if you really care
As long as you don't go
So I cry, I pray, and I beg
Love me, love me
Say that you love me
Fool me, fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me, love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me, leave me
Just say that you need me
So I cry, and I pray for you to
Love me, love me
Say that you love me
Leave me, leave me
Just say that you need me
I can't care 'bout anything but you...
Anything but you...
Love me, love me (Say that you love me)
Fool me, fool me (Go on and fool me)
Love me, love me (I know that you need me)
I can't care 'bout anything but you..
Love has always been a popular topic of discussion in the world of music. The 90's hit "Lovefool", by The Cardigans, expresses the love and devotion of a girl to a man that she is enthralled with. She seems to be overly obsessed so much that she disregards everything else but this one man.
Even with the upbeat nature of the song, the narrator is heart broken when she finds out that he ex-boyfriend has broken up with her. However she still believes that this boy is still in love with her. She expresses this in the first line, when she says there's "a problem". The problem is that the boy doesn't love her any longer. This irony is exemplified through the entire song, with the narrator "begging" the boy to love and need her.
She continues to beg the boy to love her for most of the song, showing the obsession and how unhealthy it might be. She says "I can't care 'bout anything but you...". This is definitely unhealthy because she is "losing sleep" and not taking any interest in anything besides getting the boy back. The obsession can also be deemed kind of creepy because of the upbeat nature of the song.
The Cardigans brought back a kind of disco feel to the 90's with their dance hit "Lovefool". Even though this was the only hit in America for the Swedish rock group, they were still able to contribute their lyrical stylings to the OCD lyricists of today. So if you have a crush that wants nothing to do with you, take a page from The Cardigans and write them a song. A creepy stalker-esq song. =)

I thought your theme-genre was going to be tricky but you're doing a great job, got some good variety going on.
